Boxing Drills for Personal Trainers:
Hi guys! It’s Travis here today. How was your weekend? Some of my friends want to get in shape so I help them out on the weekends. I like to keep things varied because I’m training with them too and I get bored pretty easily! So I enjoy throwing some new skills at them every now and again so this weekend we did a boxing session! It was actually a lot of fun so I wanted to share it with you!
30min session
Drill #1: Boxing Combinations (focus pads)
Timing = 30:10 x 8
– Pick 8 different combinations and do each one for 30 seconds
Drill #2: Kicking (kick shield)
Timing = 20:10 x 8
– 4 lot’s of roundhouse kicks with the left leg (singles, 1-5’s, continuous, burpee + kick)
– 4 lot’s of roundhouse kicks with the right leg (singles, 1-5’s, continuous, burpee + kick)
(alternate so 1 lot on the left leg and 1 lot on the right leg)
Drill #3: Ground and Pound (kick shield + focus pads)
Timing = 20:10 x 8
– 4 lot’s of “ground and pound” on the kick shield
– 4 lots of “straights” on the focus pads
(alternate so 1 lot of ground and pound and one lot of straights)
Drill #4: Move Me (kick shield)
Timing = 60:10 x 2
– Hold the kick shield and participant has to move you to the other end of the room by throwing punches at the shield
Drill #5: Intervals (kick shield)
Timing = 20:10 x 8
Just use 8 different intervals… a few combo’s, a few continuous punches on the shield, a few ground and pounds, a few kicks – keep it random!
The reason I liked this workout was each drill was very “different” a bit of boxing, a bit of kickboxing, a bit of MMA, a bit of fitness, a few combo’s… It was quite varied! Give it a go and let me know what you think in the comments below. Here is the video of the workout, check it out!
