Content Marketing for Personal Trainers

Content Marketing for Personal Trainers:

Hi guys! It’s Travis here today. How are you? How was your weekend? Mine was interesting, every Saturday I do full contact kickboxing sparring. Several of the guys I train with have had professional fights and the gym owner has had over 40 pro MMA fights and is a pioneer in the sport in Australia. But what was so interesting was that we all did concussion baseline testing. Which I think for anyone involved in contact sport should think about getting done. Because we’ve only got 1 brain and it is super important that we look after it!!

After our week in the US with the Social Media convention was the idea of creating entertaining marketing content. The term they used was “info-tainment” is the new “content marketing”.

For the last few years… “Content Marketing” was a really big thing! The idea was that you give your “prospects” a whole heap of helpful content. They will be grateful that you gave them some good content for free (without expecting anything in return) so they will be more likely to become a client in the future because they’d rather work with you than with a random person who hasn’t given them any content.

That worked ok for a while, but the issue these days is that content is no longer that valuable for a few reasons:

a) Every other Trainer is also doing content marketing… so everyone’s inbox and Facebook Feed is filled with “content”… it’s no longer “valuable”… it’s actually almost “annoying”…

b) If people want “content”, they can just Google / YouTube it on their own anyway.

Interesting Fact I learnt at Social Media World: “How to lose weight” is one of the most searched terms in the world… If you take out anything “pornography based” it’s actually ranked number 1 on both Google / YouTube… (If you include pornography based terms it’s ranked 1002nd :-p)

Anyways… Back to the point to catch people’s attention these days your “information” has also got to be “entertaining”! That’s where the word “info-tainment” comes from… It’s about providing good “information” but making it “entertaining”.

So that’s my tip for today… and I’ve actually got a little challenge for you… If you’re up for it 🙂

I want you to post a live video on your personal Facebook Profile today! The video needs to be
a) Informative
AND
b) Entertaining

I’d also LOVE to see some of these videos so please tag me in them (I promise to “like” it and “leave a comment” to help with your engagement). If we’re not friends on Facebook, add me! seach Travis Mattern from Fitness Education Online.

PS… My biggest take away over here in San Diego is that every Trainer NEEDS to have something online… or they’ll be left behind! So if you don’t currently have any online programs for your clients, I strongly recommend taking a look at our Online Training Course.
