Want to know how to make 6 figures as a Personal Trainer? You’re in the right place!
In this blog we’ll show you how to do it with both
- One on one Personal Training
- Bootcamp / Group Training
Before we dive into it, let’s take a look at the Math!
6 Figures = $100,000
The magic number we are going to use is $2,000 per week.
The reason being, if you’re making $2,000 a week and you work 50 weeks of the year, you’ll make $1,000,000 that year AND get two weeks off ☺!
Let’s dive in
One on One Personal Training
Pricing:
- Charge $50 for a 30min session
- Each client pays $100 per week and gets 2 x 30min sessions
$2,000 / 100 = 20
Which means if you can get 20 clients each paying you $100 per week – you’re a 6 figure Personal Trainer working 20 hours per week.
Now sounds good in theory but it’s important to consider, even though you’re working 20 ‘contact’ hours per week, it’s actually going to be more because those 20 contact hours don’t include things like writing programs, client check ins, admin etc. A good rule of thumb is for every client, also allow at least 15mins of non contact time per week, so if you’ve got 20 clients, you’ll want to allow an extra 5 hours of non contact time (and this DOESN’T include marketing time).
It’s also a constant balancing act between marketing and retention.
If you’re starting off and don’t have many clients, retention can be quite easy because you’ve only got a few clients to focus on and you can give these clients all your time and energy. You also have plenty of time and energy to spend on marketing because you don’t have a lot of clients.
Once you build your client base, retention becomes harder as you know have more clients to take care of and you have less time to market because you’re spending your time training clients.
So what’s the answer?
As you get busier, make sure you are spending time and energy on your current clients because If they stay with you – you don’t need to market. In saying that, very few trainers have had the EXACT same clients forever so you need to make sure you are doing some form of marketing and building your database so if a client does leave you – you have strategies to replace them.
Bootcamp / Group Training
- Charge $50 per week and run 6 sessions a week (6am Monday to Saturday)
- Clients can attend as many sessions as they like
$2,000 / 50 = 40
Which means if you can get 40 clients each paying you $50 per week – you’re a 6 figure Personal Trainer working 6 hours per week.
This sounds even better than One on One Personal Training right? Same amount of money but instead of working 20 contact hours per week, you now only need to work 6!
Like One on One Personal Training, there’s a little more too it!
#1: You need to find double the amount of clientele – in saying that though – you’re only charging half the price – so realistically it should be easier. It comes down to the age old question – is it easier to find 20 people and ask them for $100? Or is it easier to find 40 and ask them for $50?
#2: You need to look after double the amount of clientele. Remember our rule of thumb for Personal Training? For every client, you want to allow an extra 15mins of non contact time. With 40 clients, you’ll need to allow an extra 10 hours for programs, admin, contact time etc. So you’re actually working closer to 16 hours per week… Not including admin time!
Similar to Personal Training it’s a constant balancing act between marketing and retention.
