My Journey: How I became a Successful Personal Trainer

My Journey: How I became a Successful Personal Trainer:

Hi guys! It’s Travis here today. How was your weekend? Mine was busy (like always), one of my brothers is moving to the UK with his 2 kids, so there was plenty of family time with them and my nieces. It was nice, but it will be quiet not having them around.

What I wanted to share with you this week was my journey in the fitness industry, which lead me to where I am today. If you feel like you can relate with my story, if you have another job on the side to pay the bills, but your real passion is PT, but you can’t seem to figure out how to make it your full time job and your main income to support you and your family, I hear you and I can tell you I’ve been there myself.

When I started studying and working towards becoming an accredited personal trainer. I was pretty confident that I’d finish my Personal Training certificate and people would just come and train with me, why? Well, because of my 10 years experience working with a wide range of athletes getting solid performance results. Surely in no time I would have a long list of clients and would be making a solid income as a Personal Trainer. I couldn’t have been more WRONG!

With no clients, no income and student debts to pay an opportunity come up to work for an insurance company. It was fun (for a little while), a young staff and provided me with a solid income whilst I was studying. But sitting in a chair answering calls and trying to sell insurance, quickly became my worst nightmare and I was stuck in a boring, dead end part time corporate job. Despite this I stayed in this position for close to 3 years!! I don’t even know how. I guess I was comfortable and after trying so hard I started to believe I was never going to be a successful full-time trainer.

In this time I continued to train mates, get them stronger and hone skills as a trainer, helping plenty of people out in my local gym. Eventually, an opportunity arised at the gym, a new manager, with a focus on adding more PTs and training seminars at the gym. Here was my opportunity to get a crack at becoming a trainer!

But, It wasn’t quite what I’d hoped for…. and I’m going to share with you more about this tomorrow.
