Should kids play sports?

Should kids play sports?

Hi Guys! It’s Jono here today. I have a funny story. I had an inquiry come through last week on Friday from Melbourne! I started chatting to the prospect and they told me it was a public holiday over there? I asked what for and he said “It’s The Friday Before The Grand Final Public Holiday” and I thought he was joking, so i started laughing and then later I found out he was serious!!!! I couldn’t believe it. What are they going to do in Melbourne next? Take a holiday for the horse race!!! hahahaha 😛

Anyways, I’d like to discuss a serious topic today and that is the obesity rate in children. We all know the stats, we’ve all seen it and It’s ridiculous. It’s very to blame “technology” or “their parents” or “the schools” or “the government” or “the advertising companies”, but i’m not into blaming because that doesn’t get us anywhere, I’m more into accountability and responsibility, and I believe us as Trainers have the responsibility to help get our kids to get back in shape.

An easy way to do this is by running some form of a “Kids Bootcamp”. It’s obviously not the same as an Adults one. It’s more about running around, playing games and having fun. It may not sound like common sense, but it doesn’t happen that much days. Some children don’t get that environment where they can do that and therefore it’s essentials that someone provides it for them. Then, Why not us?

What’s important is that these “Bootcamps” have to be more about “fun and games” and different to “sport”. Sport is great, but it can be really intimidating if the kid is uncoordinated or will be “the last picked” etc…

The difference between a “game” is that anyone can win; it doesn’t matter if you’re the slowest, weakest, least coordinated kid in the class, the game should be tailored so that every kid has a chance to win.

If you’re interested in learning how to do this, I’d strongly recommend having a look at our Family Bootcamp Package (5CECs) here.
