Music for Bootcamp

Music for Bootcamp:

Hi guys! It’s Travis here today. My big speaker broke down last week and I was quite upset and exited at the same time. On the one hand I have to figure out what I’m going to do for Bootcamp, but on the other hand, it’s a great excuse to go and get a new and better speaker to bring to my sessions.

So, today I want to talk about music. I think this is a really important topic in Outdoor Bootcamps. Music is cool and people play it to stay motivated and get in the mood, etc, etc… But I think it’s more important than that. I use it more as a social tool. I find if I’ve got loud music playing, people are more likely to talk to each other (because they can’t be heard over the music) and If there’s no music playing people are less likely to talk to each other because it’s a lot more awkward if you say something and everyone can hear it. Noise also adds to the atmosphere which is why a lot of the times boxing sessions have that extra bit of atmosphere with the sound of the gloves hitting the pads. In my opinion, music is the same!

Since my big speaker broke down last week, I’ve been testing this theory and I think it’s 100% true! Obviously not in EVERY situation but in most situations if you’ve got a group that isn’t bonding that well, playing loud music can help (along with all the other things).

I had a “beats by dre” boombox. It costed me about $300 but the sound quality and loudness is AMAZING! The only down point is it needs to be plugged in to a power point (I have access to a school so I’m able to do that).

I also have a mini speaker I bought for like $70 from a local shop. This speaker is more of a back up. I use it if we do an outdoor session and I don’t have access to power. The quality and volume isn’t great, but it does the job and is better than nothing in a worse case scenario.

Bottom line, I recommend every outdoor trainer have a decent high quality speaker that has a bit of volume. It doesn’t have to be the $300 one I purchased, but something decent. I really think it’s an investment more than anything else. You’ll spend $300 on it but it will help your retention. I also recommend every outdoor trainer have a cheap “back up” speaker. So if for whatever reason your main speaker isn’t working, ran out of battery, can’t be plugged in, etc. you can pull out your back up one.

What’s your opinion? Let me know, I’d love to hear from you.
