Become a Registered Fitness Professional
You can work as a fitness instructor at a gym or a personal trainer without registering to an industry organisation. Fitness registration is not a legal requirement in Australia; in fact, it is illegal to require a trainer or instructor to be registered to an organisation or make it a condition for employment. That being said, membership comes with plenty of benefits, and the best of them all is the perception of credibility.
Many gym enthusiasts and people looking for personal trainers feel more comfortable receiving instruction from someone who is associated with a well-known industry association, like Fitness Australia and FitRec. Membership to these institutions is proof of credibility. These organisations hold members to a high standard: ongoing education is a must for members. If you are an accredited member, clients will see you as a capable, knowledgeable and trustworthy trainer and instructor.
